TETENAL 150+ YEARS OF IMAGING HISTORY

Professional photographic products - how it all began
With a history going back over 150 years, Tetenal is one of the oldest companies in the fields of photographic, pre-press and medical imaging technology.
In 1847 Berlin entrepreneur, Theodor Teichgräber included photographic chemicals for developing collodion plates in his range of pharmaceuticals for his wholesale pharmacy business. This was the birth of Tetenal. From individual sales of chemicals and dry plates, the first packages were designed for a standardised development process carrying the logo "TeTe".

THE BIRTH OF THE TETENAL TRADEMARK

1910 saw the registration of the TETENAL trademark which was later adopted as the name of the company and the entire product range.

NEW PACKAGING FOR CHEMISTRY

In 1923 the launch of Tetenal's rapid developer in a "guaranteed tropicalised" glass ampoule revolutionised the market, making the lives of press, amateur and art photographers much easier and causing their fields to take off.

BIRTH OF TETENAL X-RAY PLATES

By 1925 "Tetenal's branded product range for the professional and amateur photographer" already included over 400 articles, among them dry plates, silver chloride and silver bromide photographic papers, developing chemicals and many auxiliary agents. In the same year, Tetenal begins making X-ray plates and chemicals for the emerging market of medical radiology. Today Tetenal is one of the world's most technologically advanced suppliers of medical imaging equipment.

LAUNCH OF EMOFIN AND NEOFIN

The launch in 1929 of Tetenal's super-fine-grain developer, "Emofin", and in 1953 of the world's first emulsion surface developer, "Neofin", were milestones in the field of black-and-white photography which laid the foundations for the company's worldwide reputation and which have remained "classics" to this day.

ENTRY IN PRE PRESS AREA

1962 saw the launch of Tetenal's first product for the pre-press market, an area of application which today forms the third business sector for the company's range of products and services, beside photography and medical imaging.

NEOFIN COLOR

In 1968 Tetenal's made a major leap in development: after many years of research, the company --which by now has been catering to the field of black-and-white photography for more than a century - launches "Neofin Color", its first product for colour photography, which becomes the cornerstone of the company's success in becoming today one of the world's leading specialists in the field of colour photography.

PE PAPER INTRODUCTION

1982 sees the first PE-coated b/w photographic paper from Tetenal under the name "TT-Speed", an expression of the company's unwavering commitment to supporting the fascination of the monochrome image with modern products.

NEW STRIDES IN COLOR CHEMISTRY

In 1987 Tetenal simplifies the development of slide film with its "E-6 3 bath" technology, today a widespread standard in professional colour photography.
In 1988 Tetenal succeeds in making an important contribution towards simplified colour paper development with the launch of its "mono-concentrate technology" which finds its first application for dish and drum processing in its "Mono PK" product. From 1993 the first "mono products" for mini-lab processing are successfully sold in the shape of the company's "Monoline RA-4 CDR" products which are being updated in 2000 for the latest generation of mini-lab equipment, and relaunched as "Monoline II".
1992 the 90s have seen the launch of numerous products with improved safety and environmental compatibility as part of Tetenal's "Safe chem" research programme: formaldehyde-free stabilising baths (1994) for use in finishing processes in mini-labs and professional laboratories, mini-lab processes ("C 41 SLR", "RA-4 CD SLR") with very low replenishment rates (1992) together with the user-friendly mini-lab product line "Ergoline"(1998) and the professional kit product line "Colortec" (1998) with odourless and allergy-low formulas, these are all examples of this development.
In 1993 Tetenal becomes the first company in Germany to offer its trade customers a "complete cycle of product supply and disposal, setting new ecological standards in the process. Regardless of whether it is dealing with mass-market finishers, professional laboratories, mini-labs, hospitals, doctors' surgeries, printing plants or graphics companies, Tetenal always faces up to its responsibilities not only in manufacturing environmentally-friendly products but also in ensuring that they can be safely processed and disposed of in a way which does not damage the environment. In the field of medical imaging equipment, there follows the first special developer for mammography, "Roentoroll RA", which helps to improve the possibility of early cancer detection. In 1999 Tetenal reinforces its position as a specialist in X-ray photography with the launch of "Roentoroll AC", the first hydroquinone and glutaraldehyde-free X-ray developer for all types of film, as well as with innovations in the field of dental technology.
In 1995 Tetenal's quality management system is certified to DIN ISO 9001 - an expression of the determination of the company and its staff to serve its customers by not only excelling in terms of product innovation but also in terms of product quality.

TETENAL INK JET PRODUCTS

In 1996 , after lengthy preparations, Tetenal enters the market for ink jet products. Coming to this market with the ambition of creating the technologically best possible photo-realistic ink jet images currently available with its "spectra jet product range", Tetenal launches numerous product innovations in the field of professional image creation at the end of the nineties. The positive response from professional photographers, laboratories and providers of digital services, as well as the above-average results achieved by "spectra jet products" in international tests, these are the fruits of dedicated research and development work. Today, Tetenal belongs to a small group of technologically advanced companies around the world in the DTP and LFP field of photo-realistic, professional ink jet printing.
1998 the Tetenal Group takes a share in PSL Photosysteme GmbH in Ahrensburg. PSL is known as a supplier of high-quality, professional branded products for photographic laboratories and studios, such as Sinar, Durst, Elinchrom and Refrema. In 2000 Tetenal Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH is taking over importation into Germany of the studio flashlight systems and permanent light products made by the famous Swiss manufacturer, Elinca S.A.

SOLID PHOTOGRAPHIC CHEMISTRY FROM TETENAL

2000 Thanks to its "G-Chem technology", developed in the 90s together with international partners, Tetenal succeeds in manufacturing process chemicals in the form of solids allowing them to be made as granulates, tablets or pearls with unsurpassed performance parameters. Since 1995 products have been developed for OEM customers (incl. Konica Cooperation) for mini-labs and sold under one brand name, which are leading the way in terms of user-friendliness, ecology, efficiency and processing speed. The "SECO" G-Chem products (for Gretag Masterflex Minilabs) as well as "COLORTEC C 41 phototabs" and "COLORTEC RA-4 photopearls"
(Professional Kits) are examples of "photo-chemistry of the future" in an age where analogue and digital worlds are converging.

TETENAL INK JET PAPERS

TETENAL WINS THE D.I.M.A. SHOOT-OUT

For brilliant photo-quality images Tetenal's ink jet materials in its spectra jet range are outstanding, as international and domestic tests and competitions have shown.

For example, our Duo Print Paper won the shoot-out for ink jet papers at the PMA 2000 (Photo Marketing Association) in February 2000 and our Pearl Luster Portrait paper won the DIMA shoot-out again in 2001! Two years in a row Tetenal papers were chosen best by the photographic industry!As the manufacturer, we believe that this is no coincidence. For when our product experts began the process of researching, developing and producing photo-realistic ink jet materials at the beginning of the 90s, we were able to draw on 150 years of experience in the area of professional print processing.

PHOTO REALISM AND FINE ART FROM TETENAL

The market success of our special paper proves that we have made use of our competitive edge in expertise: the Spectra Jet range has made a name for itself with amateurs and professionals in a very short space of time thanks to its high-quality print whites, the brilliance of its colour intensity and its razor-sharp image reproduction, as well as its water-resistant, fast-drying characteristics.
Thanks to the untiring commitment of our ink jet specialists, we also ensure that our special paper is constantly adapted to take advantage of the technical advances in the latest generation of printers. And: thanks to our telephone and internet-based support service, our customers are always up-to-date. Especially when it concerns the optimum combination of printer and print medium and the best possible driver settings.
There are three sub-ranges in the spectra jet product line available to the professional and dedicated amateur - with specific media for all types of demands and print objectives:

PHOTOQUALITY

The glossy and satin-finish papers contained in this category satisfy the highest requirements of photo-realistic representation thanks to their outstanding photographic properties:
The Glossy Paper 160 g has high ink absorption capacity as well as very good image whites. It is also forgiving of less than perfect driver settings, and is ideal as an entry-level paper for ink jet photographic printing.
The Portrait Paper 240 g was designed specially for the reproduction of high-quality portraits and professional proofs. Its lustre finish and outstanding image whites achieved with the help of a specially developed PE base material, make it indistinguishable from a traditional portrait photo. In addition, the material is water-resistant and smudge-proof. ICC profiles are available for this portrait paper.
The High Glossy Paper Special 264 g is the premium paper in the spectra jet range and therefore comes in classic photographic paper strength. Thanks to its high weight and special PE varnish, it can no longer be distinguished from photographic paper, either visually or to the touch. This impression is reinforced by the extreme whiteness of the material and its intensive and brilliant colour reproduction. The "ultra fine cavity technology" of this paper guarantees fast and consistent absorption of the ink, as well as drying times measured in seconds and high water and smudge resistance. ICC profiles are of course available for this paper, too, for selected printers.

OFFICE PHOTO

If you need to use non-glossy media for layout purposes, you do not have to do without your accustomed Tetenal quality. In the way of matt coated materials, Tetenal can offer its Perfect Print Paper 120 g as well as its Duo Print Paper 130 g which can be printed on both sides, both of which are ideally suited for high-quality text and graphics but also for photo-realistic prints.
Due to its high ink absorption capacity and extremely short drying time, this high-white material can be used for batch printing with no problems. Our aim is to provide professional layout prints at page prices measured in pennies. - Both papers scored "very good" in the mark given for value for money in a test conducted by the IT magazine, ComputerBild, and our 120 g Perfect Print Paper even came top in this category.

FINE ART

Our product specialists have succeeded in killing two birds with one stone with this range for art lovers: although our Canvas Textile is a coated cotton fabric material and our Aquarell Paper 230 g genuine mold-made paper, there is no need to compromise on quality when printing even the most demanding photo-realistic pictures. At the same time, a special ink jet coating ensures that the material structure familiar to the world of art, remains clearly visible. Both materials stand out for the strength of their colour reproduction, their very high colour differentiation and their sharp focus.
Besides individual photo-realistic print-outs - perhaps for original invitations or important certificates - the Fine Art range can be used to create high-quality art reproductions. Scan in an "old master". Print it out on Canvas Textile and put it in an attractive frame. You will be impressed by the results!
The new 290 g PremiumFine Art Glossy Paper is probably the heaviest weight glossy paper available for ink jet printers! It has an even whiter base then our famous 264 g Spectra Jet High Gloss and shares it's instant drying technology and it's water fastness.

* Photorealistic image reproduction
* Strong brilliant colours
* Precise dot sharpness
* Extremely fast drying
* Water resistance
* High rub resistance
Large format in low volume - no problem!

The Spectra Jet quality is evident across the full product range,
In addition to the brilliant results, the price performance ratio as well as the exceptionally good finishing properties will convince you that Tetenal is simply the BEST.
